Actually 'conduction' is heat transfer in solids, such as metals. Most liquids are poor conductors of heat. Conduction occurs mainly in solids. Conduction is the phenomenon of transfer of heat through one part of the body to another, from particle to particle in the direction of fall of temperature without any actual movement of the particles. The heat convection can occurs due to bulk motion of fluid and in contact with solid surface. All gases are poor conductors of heat. Heat Conduction: Lumped System Analysis – Heat Transfer in Semi infinite and infinite solids – Use of Transient – Temperature charts – Application of numerical techniques. This heat transfer can take place in three different modes viz. Strictly speaking, in fluids the transfer of energy through Brownian motion is called diffusion. This process of heat flow is called conduction and happens in solids such as metals. This is because the particles or atoms are close together. How is heat transferred in solids? Heat conduction, Heat convection and Thermal Radiation.
